Cephalopod molluscs, such as octopuses and squids, contain a closed circulatory system with blood pumped beneath pressure flowing in vessels. Bivalve molluscs, such as mussels and oysters, contain an open circulatory system (also termed as lacunar circulatory system) where blood flows below low pressure as it falls in cavities of body and doesn’t only circulate in blood vessels. Molluscs with closed circulatory systems are bigger, agile and can actively move; molluscs with open circulatory systems are slow, smaller and some are practically sessile.
