Diabetes mellitus is a disease caused by deficient insulin secretion by the pancreas or through impaired capturing of such hormone by the cells. Diabetes insipidus is a disease caused by deficient ADH secretion through pituitary (or hypophysis) or as well by the impaired sensitivity of kidneys to this hormone.
In diabetes, insipidus blood lacks ADH and therefore tubular resorption of water in the kidneys is decreased and a big volume of urine is generated. The patient urinates a lot and most of the times a day, a sign as well accompanied by polydipsia (raised thirst and exaggerated ingestion of water) and at times by dehydration.
