Description of sensory receptors

Sensory receptors are structures specialized in acquiring of information, such as mechanical pressure, temperature, pH, luminosity and chemical environment, transmitting them to central nervous system. Sensory receptors might be specialized cells, e.g., the photoreceptors of retina, or specialized interstitial structures, for illustration the vibration receptors of skin. In this last case they transmit information to dendrites of the sensory neurons connected to them. There are also sensory receptors which are specialized terminations of the neuronal dendrites (e.g., the olfactory receptors).
