The pineal gland , also named as pineal body or epiphysis, is located centrally in head. It secretes the hormone melatonin, hormone produced at night and related to regulation of circadian rhythm (or circadian cycle, wakefulness-sleep cycle). Melatonin possibly controls many body functions related to night-day alternation.
