Mutualism is ecological interaction in that both participants benefit and which is compulsory for their survival.
Mutualism is a harmonious (positive) ecological interaction. Mutualism is also named as symbiosis. Instances of mutualism are: the association between microorganisms which digest cellulose and ruminants or insects in which they live; the lichens formed by the algae or cyanobacteria which generate organic material for fungi and absorb water with their help; nitrifying bacteria of genus Rhizobium which associated to leguminous plants provide nitrogen to these plants.
