Description of capillarity-capillarity for water transport

Give a brief description of capillarity? How this fact is chemically explained? What is the relevance of capillarity for water transport in the plants?

Capillarity is fact through which water moves in extremely thin tubes (capillaries) aided by attraction between water molecules and capillary wall. The capillarity fact is probable since water is a polar molecule and forms intermolecular hydrogen bonds. Thus there is electrical attraction (adhesion force) between capillary wall and water molecules that then pull each other (cohesion force) because they are bound. Not just water however other liquids might move inside capillaries by the capillarity.

Capillarity is not too pertinent for transport of water in the plants. It contributes only to a few centimeters of the ascension.
