Myoglobin is a pigment identical to hemoglobin and present in the muscle fibers. Myoglobin has a huge affinity for the oxygen. It keeps oxygen bound and liberates the gas beneath strenuous muscle work. Therefore myoglobin acts as an oxygen reserve for muscle cell.
