The quaternary protein structure is the spatial conformation due to interactions between polypeptide chains which form the protein.

Only such proteins made up of two or more polypeptide chains contain quaternary structure. Insulin (or two chains), hemoglobin (or four chains) and the immunoglobulin (or antibodies, four chains) are some illustrations of protein containing quaternary structure.
