The mollusc foot consists of the function of locomotion, fixation, support, digging in the environment and at times of holding prey. The terminations of the names specified to the main mollusc groups come from the Greek word “podos” which means foot. Gastropods encompass feet in their ventral area (as the name points out); pelecypods contain ax-shaped feet (ax in Greek mean “pelekys”); in cephalopods the feet are close to the head.
