Describe pentoses
Describe pentoses? What are the various roles of pentoses in RNA and DNA molecules?
Expert
Pentoses are the carbohydrates made up of five carbons.
The DNA molecule is made up of a series of molecules termed as nucleotides. Each and every nucleotide is made by the relationship of one pentose termed as deoxyribose with a phosphoric acid and nitrogen-containing base (A, T, C or G). RNA is also made by a series of nucleotides. The RNA nucleotides are made up by relation of one ribose (that is, a pentose) with one phosphoric acid and one nitrogen base (A, U, C or G).
Therefore pentoses are basic components of RNA and DNA.
