Synapses are the structures which transmit the neural impulse among two neurons. Whenever the electric impulse arrives at the presynaptic membrane of axon, it releases neurotransmitters which bind to postsynaptic receptors of the dendrites of next cell. The activated state of such receptors alters the permeability of dendritic membrane and the electric depolarization propagates all along the neuron plasma membrane to its axon.
