Sarcomeres are the contractile units of muscle tissue made of alternating actin blocks (that is, thin filaments) and myosin blocks (that is, thick filaments). Some sarcomeres positioned in linear series form a myofibril. Thus one muscle fiber (or cell) has numerous myofibrils made up of sacomeres.

The compartments where myofibrils are delimited and inserted by an excitable membrane termed as sarcolemma. Sarcolemma is the plasma membrane of muscle cell.
