RNA and DNA, the nucleic acids, are the molecules accountable for the hereditary information which commands the protein synthesis in living-beings. The term “nucleic” derives from the fact that they were introduced (by the Swiss biochemist Friedrich Miescher, in the year1869) in the cell nucleus. In that time it was not recognized that such substances contained the hereditary information.
