The three major parts into which a neuron can be classified are: dendrites, cell body and axon. Dendrites are the projections of plasma membrane which receive the neural impulse from other neurons. The cell body is where; the nucleus and main cellular organelles are situated. Axon is the long membrane projection which transmits the neural impulse at distance to another neuron, to muscle cells and to the other effector cells.
