Examples of reactions which are triggered by the volition include movements of limb, respiratory muscles and tongue. Examples of the involuntary efferences are those which command the peristaltic movements, the arterial wall muscles and the heartbeat. The cardiac striated and the smooth muscles are involuntarily contracted; the skeletal striated muscles are voluntarily contracted.
