Amnion refers to the membrane which covers the embryo. Chorion refers to the membrane which covers amnion, yolk sac and allantois. The space delimited by chorion and amnion is known as amniotic cavity and it is filled with the aminiotic fluid. The amniotic cavity performs the functions of avoiding the desiccation of embryo and of protecting it against the mechanical shocks.
