Sponges contain their outer wall enclosed by flat cells termed as pinacocytes and containing pores well-delimited by the special cells termed as porocytes. The inner wall is filled with choanocytes, flagellate cells specialized in the phagocytosis of food brought to central cavity; the choanocyte flagella as well maintains the water flux within the sponge. Between the outer and inner coverage of the poriferan body there are cells with amoeboid movement (through pseudopods), the amoebocytes; as they are embedded in the connective matrix, amoebocytes move and distribute nutrients to another cells and they also generate spicules which like a primitive skeleton fill the tissue and help the body structure. (Various poriferans contain an internal skeleton, an endoskeleton, made up of spicules and organic fibers.)
