Cell wall and plasma membrane
Illustrate the difference between the cell wall and plasma membrane?
Expert
Plasma membrane and cell wall is not similar thing. Plasma membrane, as well termed as cell membrane, is the outer membrane general to all living cells and it is made up of a phospholipid bilayer, embedded proteins and several other appended carbohydrates.
As cell membranes are fragile, in certain types of cells which are even outer structures which support and protect the membrane, such as the cellulose wall of plant cells and chitin wall of some fungi cells. Most of the bacteria as well present an outer cell wall made up of peptidoglycans and some other organic substances.
Lipid rafts provide another example of the complexity of cell surfaces in both their structural character and biologic functionality. Please explain the nature of these structures and their functionality.
