The Cell mediated immunity is a responsibility of a sub group of T4 cells termed as cytotoxic lymphocytes (CTLs).  Cell mediated immunity is included in killing of cancer cells and prevent the completion of life-cycle of the pathogen and its development.

Humoral immunity includes the synthesis of the specific antibody molecules termed as immunoglobulin by the B type lymphocytes.

Main functions:

a) Agglutination of the particulate matter comprising viruses and bacteria.

b) Opsonisation or coating over the bacteria.

c) Neutralization of toxins discharged by the bacteria.
