Categorization of solutions according to tonicity

Expert
According to their comparative tonicity the solution can be categorized as: hypertonic (or hyperosmotic), hypotonic (or hyposmotic) or isotonic (or isosmotic).
Whenever a solution is less concentrated as compare to other, the adjective hypotonic is provided and the more concentrated is termed as hypertonic. Whenever two compared solutions have similar concentration both obtains the adjective isotonic. Therefore this categorization makes sense merely for the comparison of solutions.
