The 802.11b (WiFi) standard is generally used for the wireless networking. Bluetooth is not competitor with the 802.11b, however a complement to it. Whenever the 802.11b is a substitute for the wired local area networking, Bluetooth is generally more commonly used as the substitute for the cables between the individual devices.
