Benefits are listed as follows:

a) It removes the restriction of shared secret key between the two entities. Here every entity may form a pair of keys, keep private one, and distribute the other one publicly.

b) The number of keys required is decreased immensely. One million users, in order to communicate require only two million keys.

Disadvantage:

If you utilize the large numbers method to be effective. Determining the cipher text using long keys takes a lot of time. So it is not suggested for the large number of text.
