ARINC-629 and MIL-STD 1553
How the ARINC-629 is different from the MIL-STD 1553?
Expert
ARINC-629 utilizes the word formats which are too similar to those within the MIL-STD-1553, however, it does not have the bus controller. Instead, ARINC-629 provides each terminal autonomous access to the bus based upon meeting three timing conditions stored within the Transmit Personality programmable read-only memory, or PROM (XPP) within the host terminal. One of these timing conditions is unique to the terminal. Another difference from MIL-STD-1553 refers to the use of the Receive Personality PROM (RPP) to recognize the labels of messages to be recorded from bus.
