The plant life cycle is called as alternation of generations since in this cycle there exist two different forms of living beings which alternate one another, one haploid and other one diploid. Alternation of the generations is also known as the diplobiontic cycle, or metagenesis, and it does not take place only in the plants, other living beings, just as cnidarians, have the cycle.
