A new fractional distillation column is not achieving the desired product specification. It is believed this is due to the design of the distillation column (i.e. column dimensions and internal components) and the control of its external components (i.e. reboiler and total condenser). The problem is not due to the operation of the distillation column, i.e. not due to process conditions such as column pressure, external reflux ratio, feed composition, feed flowrate, feed condition.
You are asked to propose five (5) possible factors which could be investigated to trouble-shoot the problem. Your proposal must clearly explain why each of your chosen factors could be a cause of the problem.
You must submit your proposal in the form of a 4-page technical report and it must include the following:
Introduction: Stating the problem being addressed (i.e. as in the first two paragraphs above)
Five sections: Each section must address one possible factor, with your clear explanation as to why it could be a cause of the problem.
