In insects, there is open circulatory system however this system does not participate in the process of gas exchange and in the supply of oxygen to the tissues. Gases pass in and out through an independent tracheal system which allows direct contact of the cells with ambient air. Thus, an insect may supply the large demand of oxygen for its fast-beating wing muscles inspite of having open circulatory system.
