Substances also called as fibrinolytics, such as streptokinase and urokinase, may destroy thrombi (clots which are formed inside capillaries, blood vessels, or within the heart chambers) and are used in treatment of the obstructions of coronary arteries or other blood vessels. Streptokinase demolishes the fibrin network and thus it dissolves the thrombotic clot. Its name is after the bacteria which produces it, the streptococci.
